As the summer flies by, we at Calvary Methodist Preschool are busy getting ready for a school year that promises to be full of surprises! We can’t wait to welcome many new friends and welcome back familiar faces. The 2020-2021 school year will bring new challenges and learning experiences for teachers and students alike. We have been studying the guidelines put forth by the state, the Department of Education, and the CDC and are putting measures in place te keep our students and staff healthy and safe.
One of the things that will be changing this year is the use of individual supplies. Each student will have their own learning mat for circle time. Rather than coming to a classroom rug, each student will have their own quilted mat to sit on. This will encourage distancing, or as we say in preschool “keeping our hands to ourselves”. These mats will be machine washable to help cut down on germs. These mats are currently being made by a former student’s family, so be on the lookout on our Facebook page for photos! We will also be giving each student a lap desk and learning tool kits. Supplies like crayons, markers, pencils, scissors, and glue will be assigned to students individually to reduce sharing, and stay in buckets for that purpose.
We recognize that sharing and learning to share is a big part of preschool. Students will still be practicing this important skill during free play. We have gone through our vast collection of toys and chosen the best toys to foster creativity and learning, while also being ‘disinfect-able’. Our goal, as always, is to provide a fun and safe learning environment for your children.
We can’t wait to see you all in September!
