The first two months of preschool have been filled with exciting stories as we explored some favorite books together. These stories captured our imaginations and introduced us to unique characters, making storytime a special part of our day. From silly rhymes to heartwarming tales, these books are a highlight of our classroom experience. Here are some of the books that have become favorites among the children so far this school year.

Squirrel’s Busy Day by Lucy Barnard is a heartwarming story about friendship and teamwork. Squirrel is busy gathering food for winter but accidentally loses all her acorns. Feeling overwhelmed, she learns the value of asking for help when her woodland friends come together to assist her. With its charming illustrations and gentle message about cooperation and kindness, this book is a delightful read for young children.

The Leaf Thief by Alice Hemming is a delightful and humorous story about a squirrel who becomes overly concerned when the leaves on his tree begin disappearing. Convinced someone is stealing them, he investigates, only to discover the natural process of autumn. With vibrant illustrations and a playful narrative, this book introduces young readers to the changing seasons while highlighting themes of curiosity and learning to adapt to change.

The Haunted Ghoul Bus by Lisa Trumbauer is a spooky yet playful Halloween story that follows a young boy who accidentally boards a mysterious bus filled with ghosts, goblins, and other creepy creatures. As the boy navigates this eerie adventure, he learns that things aren’t always as scary as they seem. With its minimalist illustrations and playful tone, this book engages young readers with its charm and encourages creative thinking. Giggles were heard each time this book was read.

The Secret Life of Squirrels by Nancy Rose gives readers a peek into the charming world of a squirrel named Mr. Peanuts. This creative tale is brought to life with unique, real-life photographs of squirrels interacting with tiny, handcrafted scenes. As Mr. Peanuts goes about his day—writing letters, cooking, and reading—young readers are enchanted. There are other books in this series for various holidays, such as Christmas and Valentine’s Day. Students loved looking through the book at each photograph.

Duck and Goose, Find a Pumpkin by Tad Hills is a delightful, autumn-themed story featuring the beloved characters Duck and Goose. When they see their friend Thistle carrying a large pumpkin, they set off on a fun-filled adventure to find one of their own. Through their humorous search in all the wrong places, they eventually discover the perfect pumpkin. With its vibrant illustrations and playful dialogue, this story is a charming way to celebrate the fall season and the joy of exploration.
